I'd recognise that frown anywhere! You, my friend, are a skeptic. Ah-ah, don't try and deny it now! I can see it in your eyes. Well, good traveller, let me releive you of your delusions. Magic here is very real. Not only that, but you will have to master it if you wish to survive your journey.

Before you can even begin, though, you will need to find yourself some runes. Runes look like this. The runes are symbolic of the actions required to tap into the mana source. When you have found runes that can be combined to form a spell you will find a symbol like this one in your book.

Ah, the book! Before this lesson can go further, you must become familiar with the spell section of your book. You do know where your book is, don't you? Good! The page you are looking for is accessed using this marker. Now, rather than my trying to give you a convulted explantaion of this various areas, why don't you whizz down to the bottom of this page and have a look at our interactive guide. Familiar with your spell page now? Excellent! LEt's get back to our lesson then. Where were we..? Ah, yes, gathering spells.

So you've found some runes and collected a spell in your book? Your next question then, is how to use the spell. Start by having the runes demonstrated to you. (You did use the interactive tool, didn't you?) Now close your book and press and hold CTRL to enter MAGIC MODE. You will know you are in the right mode when you see this cursor.

Whilst in magic mode HOLD DOWN the LEFT mouse and draw the first rune of the spell, releasing the mouse button when finished. Success will be confirmed by a voice speaking the rune and a symbol in the top left of your screen. Repeat this process for all the runes in the spell. When you have finished drawing ALL the runes, release the CTRL button to cast the spell.

That wasn't so difficult now, hmm? But what, you ask, if you're in a pickle and don't have time for all this rune drawing? The answer, traveller, lies in your memory. You have the ability to memorize up to three spells at a time. But be warned, each memorized spell may be used only once, so do so with caution. To memorize a spell hold down the SHIFT key whilst in magic mode to record everything you draw. AFTER you have released the CTRL key, release the SHIFT key. If you have done this correctly, a blue icon will appear. DOUBLE-CLICK this icon to quickly cast the spell.

If you are lucky, you will also find scroll-spells to use. These spells can be memorized by RIGHT-CLICKING on the scroll. A word of caution, though. You do not learn the runes for these spells, so once a scroll-spell has been cast, it is gone for good.
